Advanced Kumihimo

I run a variety of courses aimed at varying levels of expertises.

Beginners Kumihimo (Japanese braiding)

Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braiding whih traditionally uses a Marudai (a large wooden braiding stand). This course uses the Kumihimo disc (a rubber disc), which makes Kumihimo braiding available to all. This is a beautiful technique for producing braids that can be used as cords, bag handles, jewellery and many more. It uses a simple, inexpensive and reusable bit of equipment with a wide variety of yarns to quickly produce some exciting braids. The course will give a basic understanding of the method and you will produce several samples to go away with.

Advanced Kumihimo

This course takes the technique one step further and introduces advanced braids and the use of beads in braiding and then moves on to the Kumihimo plate, which produces flat zigzag braids.

Plysplit Braiding

Plysplit Braiding originally comes from a method used to make camels girths in Rhajhastan. This unusual techniques uses highly twisted cords to produce simple and intricate styles. The course has two sections; how to produce a decorative cord and how to plysplit braid a bracelet, allowing you to learn a new technique and come away with several usable samples.
